Genshin Impact Frequently Asked Questions Summary (PC Version)

Dear Travelers,

On September 26 10:00 (UTC+8), Travelers on PC can pre-download the Genshin Impact game client from our official website. To that end, we have collected some of your questions to be answered below, so please take note of them! 

Device Compatibility

Q1: What are the recommended specifications for PC?

Storage space required for first-time installation: 150 GB of reserved space

Common Installation Questions

Q1: When I open the launcher or launch the game, I get the following  error: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running."
A1: Please confirm that your Windows operating system fulfills the system  compatibility requirements. If your specifications are too low, you may be  unable to install or launch the game. You may also experience black screens  and unresponsiveness.
PS: If you are using Windows 7, you must at least be running the Windows  7 Service Pack 1 version to play the game. 

Q2: After opening the launcher, the launcher's main menu displays  incorrectly. (e.g. the launcher page does not display fully)
A2: Right click Genshin's desktop icon and select  "Compatibility" > "Change High DPI Settings", and tick  "Replace high DPI scaling behavior", select "System"  below, and after applying your settings, restart the launcher to restore  normal display function.

Q3: While downloading, I get the following message: "Please check  your network connection."
A3: Please click to restart your download. If the error persists, please  check your network connection and VPN settings. 

Q4: After opening the game, the game does not respond/the game does not  launch.
A4: Please check if you have an anti-virus program installed, and check  if this program is blocking any files related to Genshin Impact's  installation. If it is, please remove said blockage, set the relevant files  to "trusted," or close the anti-virus software before re-opening  the game.

Q5: After launching the game, the game is stuck on a white screen before  the Genshin Impact logo can appear.
A5: Please check if a folder named "DXSETUP"exists within your  installation directory. If so, please double-click on the  "DXSETUP.exe" executable within the folder to manually install  DirectX 11 before restarting the game. If not please download and install  DirectX 11.

Q6: When launching the game, the following error message appears:  "Failed to download resource files or network error. Please try again.  Code: -9908"
A6: Please try re-launching the game. If this does not work, please  uninstall the launcher, delete the game intallation package, and reinstall  Genshin Impact.

Q7: When I update the game, I get the following message:  "Insufficient space on disk."
A7: Please ensure that the hard disk to which you have installed the game  has enough space. If the space remaining does not exceed 30 GB, we recommend  that you delete some files before re-opening the launcher and updating the  game once again.

Q8: I have yet to uninstall previous beta test files. Can I directly  install the official release version of Genshin Impact?
A8: Please uninstall the previous beta test files first.

Q9: When launching Genshin, I receive the following alerts:
1. The application cannot start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close  this application.
2. The program can't start because MSVCP140.dll cannot be found. Try  reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
A9: Please look for vcredist2013_x64.exe in your launcher installation  directory. Double-click it to begin installing.
Then go to the Microsoft official website to download and install the  latest VC_redist.x64.exe, and restart the game.

Q10: The installation process was blocked by an anti-virus program or a  similar pop-up notice:
A10: If a virus blocker screen appears during the installation process,  please click "Trust," "Permit," or whatever similar term  appears, or quit the virus software.

Q11: Clicking the launcher produces no response.
A11: Download and install the latest VC_redist.x64.exe as stated in A9.
If you have followed the above instructions but are still unable to solve  the issues you have, please check if you are using a discrete graphics card  and an integrated graphics card simultaneously. If you are, disable your  integrated graphics card before restarting the launcher. If not, please  contact our customer service independently at: genshin_cs@hoyoverse.com

Common Gameplay Questions

Q1: Does the PC version of Genshin Impact support MacOS systems?
A1: For now, it does not. 

Q2: Does the PCversion of Genshin Impact support Xbox/PS4 controllers?  What do I do if I am unable to change my settings after connecting the  controller?
A2: At present, the PC version of Genshin Impact supports the use of PS4  and Xbox One/Elite controllers. We will continue to optimize the controller  experience and compatibility. Please be patient with us, Travelers!
If connecting the controller renders you unable to change settings,  please go to Settings > Control Panel > Devices and Printers, and check  if there is a clash in your virtual controller inputs.

Q3: Does the PC version support emulators?
A3: No, it does not. 

Q4: What do I do if the game lags?
A4: First, check if your system settings are compatible with our system  requirements (see the specifications section at the top of this FAQ). Next,  you can also click on Settings in the Paimon Menu, and lower your graphics  quality as needed to increase overall performance.

Q5: What if I am unable to download/update the game?
A5: First ensure that your system has enough disk space to install  Genshin Impact. Next, we recommend that you use a stable internet connection  with sufficient bandwidth to download Genshin Impact, as its game files are  quite large.

Q6: Why does the game crash for no reason?
A6: Crashes occur for many reasons. The development team is already  investigating the various possible reasons. We suggest that you switch to  using a discrete graphics card before restarting the game.
How to switch to using a discrete graphics card:
1. NVIDIA Graphics Card
Right click a blank space on your desktop > Select NVIDIA Control  Panel > 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings >  Choose the program you want to customize > Select Genshin Impact in the  drop down menu.
> In the second drop-down menu, select the program's preferred  graphics processor.

2. AMD Discrete Graphics Card
Right click a blank space on your desktop > Select Radeon Settings  > Preferences > Additional Settings > Power > Switchable Graphics  Application Settings (or: Graphics Card Properties > Graphics Card  Performance > AMD Radeon Dual Graphics > Use AMD Radeon Dual Graphics)
> Select Genshin Impact from the program list.
(If the game is not in the list, click "Add Program", and  select the Genshin Impact executable file (.exe) in its installation  directory.)
> In the "Graphics Card Settings" column, set "High  Performance" or "Highest Performance" to the game.

Q7: The client crashes several times during the game.
A7: It could be affected by other softwares in the background. After confirming that your device configuration meets the minimum requirements, please try to restart the computer before opening the client. If you still experience crashes, please contact customer service.

Q8: Will different platforms/regions have different prices for bundles and top-up?
A8: Yes, there will be. Different platforms and regions have their own regulations and exchange rates, which may result in differences in bundle and top-up prices. We hope for your understanding in this matter.
